    Jim,

In the future, you may want to check spelling before posting. Your anger masks what I would hope to be an underlying, albeit buried, intelligence.

We received this check dated 10/08/10 for $10 and have no idea whatsoever what this is about. The nmclass.com website is useless and the mailing they sent provided no useful information about this check. We have been clients in many class action lawsuits, and this one takes the cake for total lack of information. If there’s a court that’s still involved, they need to oversee this thing because it’s shameful. Rust Consulting is supposedly the Administrator and they are not doing a decent job on this one.

So how much did the attnys make. Legalized theft. Billing and sticking it to to the policyholders because we now have to watch our dividends go down because of this lame *** suit.

I hate money grubbing claimants and attnys that loose site of the ethics codes and doing it right. I’m sure if the claimant was trying to do it right they take there premiums back and move on, Probably offered plus some goodwill cash from NML but 92M -$#!+

Next time read your policy and grow up. Get a life and do what’s right.

Okay, so I got a couple checks in the mail. I was never misled in any way or harmed in any way by the company. The difference between term life (I have a lot until my kids finish college) and whole life (I have a little) was clearly explained to me. I don’t feel that Northwestern Mutual owes me anything.
So, should I tear up the checks or cash them and give the money to charity?

Fundamentally, the claimants alleged that certain term policies (which were, by their nature, non-dividend earning and otherwise non-participating), contained language that would appear in a participating policy (such as whole life). The allegation was that unknowledgeable term insurance buyers did or could have been led to believe that they would realize a dividend distribution similar to whole life owners.

I agree with you John. I had no idea this suit was going on, & have not had a policy with NWM for many years. My wife rec’d a $10 check and I rec’d a check for $18. $28 is not much, but it’s $28 more than I would have had otherwise.
I also agree with those who think the website is useless. The letter that came with the check explained what a dividend is, but doesn’t say why the suit was ever brought in the first place. All very odd for a company that usually seems to have its act together.
