I wish it were that simple. We did not have the time nor the resources at the time to be overly selective. We have been looking for other insurance companies that would consider taking us on but were told that there was a long waiting list and that several of them were not taking new customers at the time.
That coupled with family medical problems consumed much of our time and energy.
As for contractors, we know a contractor who does roofing and is very reliable. We just need to be able to pay him for the work. Some of the damage we can repair ourselves but it will cost money for the supplies.
I do not expect Fairplan to perform miracles. However I do expect them to do what they are paid to do and at least acknowledge that I have a policy after I shelled out so much money to them. We even got flood insurance and some of the extra coverage that cost quite a bit.
Fairplan is more expensive than our previous insurance.

I too have been getting the run around. I called Lous. Fairplan who give me a temporary claim number and said to call back. I eventually got a claim number and was told I had to call Audubon, who of course is unreachable. I can’t even get them to give them my new apt. address let alone get an adjuster..

we are also having trouble with this company. but first let me clarify something. this insurance is not just for POOR folks or others that can’t be insured by other companies. We unfortunately got this policy when my agent left allstate and took all of his contacts with him without our knowledge or permission. however, let me say that i am totally disgusted with the way that aig/ audobon, or whoever is handling our claims. the wait on the phone whenever you get through can be up to an hour, and i still ahve not recieved my check after calling almost 3 weeks ago. i have heard so many excuses. come on people, if we didn’t need financial assistance at this time, we wouldn’t be asking for it.

I thought that I was thr only one. I have called over 22 different numbers
only to be shuffled repeatedly. My home was utterly destroyed and I cannot even get the advance for Loss of Use.

I’m glad I never wrote a policy in the fair plan.

As an agent, I have tried every back door and side entrance into Citizens and the Fair plan with absolutely no success. This is one of the few lawsuits against the industry I support. They should be strung up.

If agents would think through what the fair plans and assigned risk plans are about, they wouldn’t write business with them.
These “plans” are usually about tightness in a market place and higher costs of insurance. These kinds of plans allow no profit potential for companies but they do have opportunities for loss. All companies in the market subsidize the underwriting loss. It is exactly opposite of what agents, consumers and companies need.
The only beneficiaries are the politicians who use them to buy votes.

Regarding: “Come on folk – stop blaming the victims. Is anybody in this industry seriously surprised that its AIG who is non responsive? That’s one of the ways they’ve made all that money over the years, and helped give this industry such a bad name.”

Just how do you make a lot of money providing horrible service?

It’s not about AIG. It’s about forcing any one or any intity to do work they would not normally do. Forced labor doesn’t and will never do the quality that voluntary labor will do.
If a waitress knows your tipping habbits suck and at another table the customer will tip her/him very well you can be sure the good tipper will get special service.
It’s voluntary and you cannot regulate it.
The Fair Plan or any other assigned risk has no profit potiential.
