LA Fair Plan is a joke, and a disgrace. Katrina hit Louisiana on 8/29…..today is November 1st and they have supposedly \”fired\” two seperate groups of adjusters. We had an adjuster show up FINALLY on the 9th of October..spent 3 hours showing us where tornado activity had taken place and assuring us that the home owners would definitely be paying for damage. Two weeks later I hear from a \”New\” adjuster? BS! I\’ll see them in court first. Just tell me how to join in this suit!! I\’ve already filed a complaint with the State insurance commissioner

I\’ve been given several #s as well. I was just given my claim # last week and a working phone #. The rep. did return my call and stated there was a check waiting for me and that I should receive it this week 11/14-18. She asked that I fax a copy of my license and request the check. She went as far as giving me the check # and box # it was located in. She gave me another # to check the status on my claim because it was turned over to a new group. I hope these #\’s help. Also, I\’ve met w/an adjustor on 10/29 and he stated it could take anywhere from 3-4 after the reports are turned in. Last week, another adjustor called to meet with me but I explained to her I had met with someone already. Hopefully we\’ll all get the assistance that is due to us.

Just wanted to give hope to those who may be waiting for assistance and have become frustrated. Read my comments posted on 11/14. As promised, I received FedEX mail today containing a check for $1500. The check is dated 9/17, which means they\’ve been ready. Why the hold up and mix up, I don\’t know. When I filed the claim, I gave the address where I evacuated to, so I really don\’t understand why the check was not sent to me sooner. Try the names and #\’s I\’ve already given. God bless and don\’t give up.

    lets review the facts:
    1. Katrina hit
    2. Had to evacuate
    3. Was told by local governmental officals we coldn\’t return.
    4. I have LOSS OF USE provision in my policy for up to $16K
    5. Was given $1K advance which should fall under that loss of use.
    6. AIG is now wanting to deduct that from my damage claim.
    7. read my policy cover to cover it did not state that monies received under loss of use would be should be etc.. deducted from damage claim.
    8. they had my adjuster cut my claim to about half.
    9. they do not let me get away with not paying my premium they are not going to get away with what they should be paying.
    Question:
If they do not have the money to pay their policy holders what they are rightfully due then what has happened to all those premiums that have been colected over the years. Where has that money gone? Seems like a higher authority needs to take a hard look at this matter.
Mr. Wooley you are an elected offical does the word re-election mean anything to you?

Heard folks along the gulf coast i.e. Mississippi, are initiating a class action suit against some insurance companies. Then heard a gentleman from the insurance institute say thats the worst thing they could do because insurance would not be able to be purchased in that area at any price. So in effect what this person was saying is, if you take us to court (insurance industry)and a judge rules that what we are doing is illegal, incorrect, not just, kind of like a breach of contract ( our policy) then you are not going to sell us needed and in some instances required insurance. Now I don\’t know about anyone else out there but to me that sounds a bit like extortion and the insurance companies wanting a SURE THING so to speak. Seems to like any outcome of a court proceeding would be based solely on what is legal, correct and just. What is the insurance industry afraid of that they do not want this taken to that level?

If you kill the mule because you think he\’s stubborn then he won\’t be able to carry you to town.

On the other hand, if the mule won\’t work it\’s better to go ahead and kill it rather than feed it more…..Mules don\’t make good apartment pets.
THE problem with Fair plans and assigned risk plans is that there is an opportunity for the business to lose money and no opportunity for profit. Even when a company makes a decision to \”care\” about assigned customers they will not be treated as well as the preferred group. They will never look as good on the balance sheet.

    Hello.

Oh no. I just found out about this. I\’ve been calling and calling and still no adjuster to my house. BTW, I just paid just over $4,000.00 (yes, four thousand dollars) for this years premium. I sent the check next day delivery to them while I was at a hotel in Houston!

I\’ve been home in Metairie for a while and they keep telling me that they are in my neighborhood and are coming soon!

How do I follow this up? Any ideas?

I believe a representative for LA Fair Plan changed my deductible % to have me pay a higher deductible per the hurricane Katrina. Looking for lawyer to do the research. # 713-633-1741 email address kay70126@yahoo.com

    Jenny –

Just now had a chance to try and catch up on email and such. We finally signed in with \”Storm Lawyers\” in New Orleans and they have done a lot to help already! This is not a class action suit…it\’s individuals who have been hurt by LA \”Fair\” Plan (what an oxymoron!). You\’ll hear their ads on the radio – it\’s a good way to try and help yourself.

Late December we received a check for a ridicuously low amount from LA Fair. It was made out to my husband and I and THE WRONG MORTGAGE COMPANY. I returned this, overnite, on January 3rd. Heard nothing until 1st week of March….and they sent the SAME amount with tHE IDENTICAL WRONG MORTGAGE COMPANY on the check. I contacted the lawyers and sent them a copy of the check along with a copy of the current bill LA Fair had sent us…..and the bill, surprisingly enough, had the CORRECT information. Go figure
