I think many writers miss the point and are looking through the wrong end of the binoculars. If the Mosque developers are looking for cultural sensitivity, they must first be willing to reciprocate and consider the sensitivity of their fellow countrymen. Failing to do so, only fuels the fire regarding the reason that this site is so important TO THEM rather than all of us. This is not about “freedom of religion”, as nearly everyone concedes that point. It is a bruhaha over propriety and deference to a tragic event that affected all Americans, including moderate Muslims.

Also, there is a lack or recognition in all these threads that misses the real point of the Muslim v America discusion, that being that we are really looking at a class of civilizations, not just cultures and that friction will raise the passion and intensity of the debate, and rightly so. There is much more at stake in this “war against terrorism” and the mosque debate than meets the eye.

i have a feeling that you would condemn a whole just because of a few actions. would that be like stating that all catholics are ??? because of the priests who are the supposed shephards of the flock? is that like stating that just because we have 1 rotten apple that the whole orchard needs to be burned down? or i have one batch of bad grapes that i can’t make any more wine from this vineyard? yes, you will find folks that don’t believe like anyone else, but does that make them any different than you? if they don’t commit a violent act, how are we to condemn them for actions of those that do? our society is so easy to suit and condemn quickly a batch of folks, instead of accepting people for who they are and not a percieved notion of what they could possibly be. i know it’s hard but in reality how can we believe in equality if all you hear is the same rhetoric about the few bad apples!

…it contains a religion. In its totality it is a theistic bandit code.

I don’t advocate arson, ok? But those of you who might think that Muslims should be allowed to practice their religion here had better get ready for e.g. amputations for thieves and the murder of Jews and Christians who won’t convert or pay the jizya.

There are parts of Amsterdam and Malmo and London where Christian women can’t go unless they’re wearing a head covering, because Muslims are free to practice their religion there.

There aren’t enough Muslims in Murfreesboro to justify a mosque the size of the one in question. Like much of what Muslims as they gain strength during “conquest by immigration,” it is a provocation, no more, no less.

I wonder if Muslims fret over historical events such as the Spanish Inquisition, or if they look at it as an idea that was poorly implemented by people of the wrong faith. And, why is it that there isn’t a loud and vocal moderate muslim community speaking on these sensitive issues.

Muslims should be free to practice this?

Sura (8:55) – Surely the vilest of animals in Allah’s sight are those who disbelieve

Sura (48:29) – Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard (ruthless) against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves

Sura (8:12) – I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them

Sura (9:123) – O you who believe! Fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness

Sura (5:33) – The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement.

well, we can find all kinds of words in various holy books… even in the bible it states and eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth. buy yet, there is a part that even asks for forgiveness. but who to say whose religion is wrong or right? we must live together and respect each other. the koran is a holy book to the muslim. but they like us need to look each other and trust that we can believe in our own faiths. just remember that both your freedom and their freedom in our country is law to be respected.

I know this country was founded on those priciples. I live here! People should have a right to their feelings, opinions and beliefs and feel safe in believing in it. However, murderers, iron fists, individuals that support or turn a blind eye to the crimes against humanity the middle east (primarily muslim countries) commits shouldn’t have the right to that freedom. They need to pay for their sins instead of reaping rewards and freedoms our families from long ago worked and died for in order to give them.
Give me ONE predominantly Muslim country that contributes to the world in a positve way. And if you can come up with one I may have overlooked, I’ll match you with 10 Muslims countries that contribute to the destruction of freedom and humanity. It’s a destructive religon. Period.
America was founded on those priciples with the idea that those groups of people would return or just have, the tolerance and respect this country so graciously gave as well as other more tolarant countries but instead they spit it back in our face. With examples of 9/11, London’s bus bombings and so on and on and on.
People love to say America always has to have an enemy. ‘That United States is always picking on someone, and they decided to pick on the poor people that destroyed our World Trade Center, bombed our embassies, shot up Ft Hood and continue to try to blow up our airplanes and citizens in the name of Islam. How dare the United States and it’s citizens for having a problem with that particular religion.
And sorry, the world doesn’t work like it did in the 3rd grade where if you bring candy to class, you better bring enough for everybody. If your religion teaches hate and murder of anyone that doesn’t believe what you do, why would that candy ideology apply to you? Jews, Hindu’s, Buddists and a slew of other, reputably pleaceful religions can do it, why can’t they? If you havent noticed, countries with those religions on top are doing relatively fine compared to Somalia or Afghanistan.
If they had an example I can go on, I wouldn’t have this opinion but they have none to share with the world. They’ve destroyed their OWN repuation and are forcing their way into my neighborhoods and I have to take the civics class? Let’s lecture me about how I’m supposed to twist the reality of it all because my anger and hurt over what I have witnessed is just so taboo. Get a grip people. That ‘freedom’ and ‘fairness’ defense is all ya got. They don’t even believe in it. Their fighting us with our own guns. I’m just calling it like I see it.
