I have been informed that the company that is currently writting my homeowners coverage will not be renewing. I have inquired to see if I can purchase the same coverage thru Citizens, and was informed that Citizens will not allow me to purchase extra Jewelry coverage for my wife\’s wedding ring, nor can I purchase coverage for my 18\’ boat. I also can not purchase personal injury coverage, or an umbrella. All of these items I was allowed to purchase thru my present company. It doesn\’t appear to me that Citizens is a true insurance company.

One of the things that surprises me is the lack of posts on what I would consider a related article on the continued development of coastal properties. The state continues to allow barrier island properties to be developed even though they know these new properties are targeted to be insured through Citizen\’s, further stressing an already haphazard system.

When will the state realize that in order to fight the rising cost of insurance that they will need to curb development in these areas?

Kathy, I agree you do need anger management. It is not \”IF\” another hurricane will hit FL but when & how big. You praise Citizens b/c of their rates. I just hope that they have the money to replace your home when the next BIG hurricane hits your town & it will. Don\’t forget Orlando got hit a couple of years ago & last I looked it is not a coastal city.

I made my Mom get out of Citizens this year b/c they are on shaky ground.

How much more \”actual\” facts then this can you get! PLEASE!!
State Farm Insurance\’s chairman and CEO received an 82 percent raise after the company posted a record profit last year, a statement from the Bloomington-Ill.-based insurer said this week.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ed Rust Jr. got a $5.26 million raise. He earned $11.66 million in 2006 with a base salary of $1.77 million and results-based bonus of $9.89 million, the statement said. Rust made $6.4 million in 2005 and $5.5 million in 2004.

The absence of a major catastrophe helped the insurer generate a record $5.32 billion profit last year, compared to $3.24 billion in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit the Mississippi Gulf Coast, release said

Don\’t worry bp, I have been working with the state and Commissioner McCarty and if you notice that we got the \”Use and File\” changed so that like everyone else the insurance industry has to ASK for a raise verses getting one, implementing it, then asking if it\’s \”ok\” and if you will also notice we got rid of arbritration so when the commissioner says NO to these greedy companies they having nothing they can do about it. NOW we are working on not allowing any future outrageous increases. So to answer your question, I am working with the state insurance commissioner. Thanks for asking.
