A 25-year-old Boise, Idaho, man police say set his BMW on fire to get out of making car payments is facing a charge of third-degree arson.
KTVB-TV reports that Steven M. Carter turned himself in at the Ada County Jail on Tuesday.
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office says deputies found the 2006 BMW 325i on Feb. 4 smoldering on a dirt road in the desert near Kuna.
Authorities say Carter told police he drove the car to the desert, poured gas on it, and set it on fire.
Authorities say Carter owes the bank $20,000.
