March 13, 2003

International insurance brokerage and consulting company Summit Global Partners has formed a new group specializing in complex marine risks.

The Marine Practice Group, which will be located in San Francisco, will service the insurance and risk management needs of virtually every segment of the marine community nationwide, including yacht clubs; vessel pilot associations; marinas; ADC commercial diving contractors; ship builders and repairers; underwater equipment manufacturers and distributors; boat dealers; international trading companies; blue water vessel owners; brown water vessel owners; and, vessel charters.

Leading the new division is Douglas Holm who will serve as vice president- director.

Holm joins SGP (www.sgp.net) from Plaza Insurance where he built a marine practice, including businesses serving the pleasure craft segment of the industry. Holm has 16 years experience in all lines of commercial insurance, including workers’ compensation and USL&H. Holm will also serve on the leadership team in SGP’s San Francisco office.

“We are the perfect choice for marine businesses seeking professional knowledge and personal service,” Holm said. “With SGP’s national footprint and our local risk control and claim management expertise, all of our clients will benefit.”

Joining Holm as assistant vice president is Kelly Martinez, a graduate of the California Maritime Academy who holds an Unlimited Third Mate’s license. Martinez specializes in the insurance needs of vessel pilot associations, international trading companies and the commercial diving industries. Martinez had also been a senior ocean marine underwriter for a large international insurance company specializing in ocean cargo risks and was a lead underwriter for blue/brown water vessels in the great northwest.

SGP chose San Francisco as the location for its new national practice because of the city’s large concentration of marine and related businesses.
