The Wayne County, West Virginia, Commission is acquiring more than a dozen flood-prone homes in Spring Valley.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing a $1.2 million Hazard Mitigation Grant for the project. The state will provide $500,000.
County Administrator Brett Jonmes told WSAZ-TV that the homes will be demolished and the properties will become green spaces.
