Investigators want to know how the front of a $600,000 Dallas, Texas, Fire Department ladder truck ended up in the drink.
Damage estimates are pending over the incident at White Rock Lake. Officials are looking at whether the brakes failed Sunday and the firefighting vehicle rolled into the water.
Authorities say fire crews were at the lake for a water rescue at a spillway. The boater managed to escape unharmed.
The truck ended up cab-first in the lake, with water halfway up to the windows.
A spokesman for Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman did not immediately return a message Wednesday from The Associated Press.
