California-based Mercury Insurance Group announced it has increased its presence in San Antonio, Texas, by adding substantially to staff at its regional call center at 12961 Park Central Blvd.
The facility opened in April 2004 with a staff of 54 and now employs over 180. It will in eventually employ approximately 300, according to Richard L. McCathron, vice president for the Western Region of Mercury General Corporation, parent company of Mercury Insurance Group.
Mercury’s San Antonio call center services customers and prospective customers in Mercury’s operations. The expansion in San Antonio allows customers interaction with licensed representatives, providing a wide range of services including initial claims reports, billing inquiries, customer service and quotations in English and Spanish, according to McCathron.
“We are pleased with the quality of employees that we have sourced in San Antonio and look forward to continued growth and expanded employment activities,” said McCathron.
Mercury currently has 325 employees in Texas between the San Antonio call center and its regional office in Austin, which handles underwriting, claims, marketing and administration for the Western region.
Mercury sells its insurance policies in 12 states through a network of over 3,500 independent brokers and agents. Founded in 1961 by its Chairman George Joseph, Mercury operates primarily as a personal automobile insurer and in some states also provides some additional personal and commercial insurance products.
