Ellis County officials were surprised to learn that the county didn’t have event insurance for the county’s fair last month.
The Hays Daily News says Commissioner Dean Haselhorst reported Monday night that Fair Board members had “jumped down his throat” about the lack of insurance for the fair.
While the county fairgrounds property is insured, additional insurance is required for events. County Administrator Greg Sund says the insurance company contacted to cover the event pulled out at the last minute.
Haselhorst says the Fair Board is owed an apology for being exposed to the type of liability that would have come if there had been a tragic event at the fair.
No such incidents were reported.
