The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) announced a Scioto County healthcare provider has been sentenced for fraudulent practices.
Dr. Ronald Hoover, a chiropractor, was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison. He will serve three years probation upon his release. Dr. Hoover was ordered to pay $70,949.01 in restitution to BWC.
The BWC special investigation department (SID) was alerted by an anonymous tip of possible fraud by Hoover. The SID Health Care Provider Team (HCPT) reportedly confirmed that Hoover was billing for services that were never provided in addition to billing for one service when another non-reimbursable service was provided.
The investigation of Dr. Hoover included a nine month undercover operation in which a BWC agent posed as an injured worker.
