Joe Thomas, GEICO’s regional vice president in Virginia Beach, has been named chairman of Drive Smart Virginia at the group’s recent board meeting.
Thomas will head the organization’s decade-long efforts to improve
traffic safety in the state. Drive Smart Virginia was founded in 1995 by
several insurance companies including GEICO to begin a private-public partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
Thomas indicated that Drive Smart Virginia is focused on such programs as educating drivers about the “no zone” related to trucks, additional enforcement of state laws to get all Virginia children buckled up and its “Smart, Safe & Sober” driving program.
