Radiologist Sues Former Employers, Says He Was Forced into Retirement

February 5, 2003

A radiologist has sued his former employers, claiming they forced him into retirement when they dropped him from their malpractice insurance, according to Annapolis’ The Capital.

Dr. David O’Brien of North Beach and his wife, Frances O’Brien, also claim employees of American Radiology Services of Baltimore defamed them by informing other area doctors that the 67-year-old physician retired because he could not handle all the stresses of medical practice. The couple is reportedly seeking $32.8 million in damages.

Dr. O’Brien reportedly sold his radiology practice to the company in 1997 and signed an employee contract.

American Radiology changed insurance carriers in December, but did not reportedly submit an application for Dr. O’Brien, who claims he was out of the country.

O’Brien stated when he returned, he learned he’d been fired because he was reportedly uninsurable.
