Oregon Coastal Road Damaged by Weekend Storm

The state has reopened one lane of a stretch of U.S. 101 on Oregon’s central coast that was damaged by the weekend’s foul weather.

The Department of Transportation reported Monday that drivers can expect delays of no more than 20 minutes at Heceta Head a dozen miles north of Florence while flaggers and a pilot car manage traffic.

Part of the roadway is in precarious condition because of water damage, an active landslide and a failing retaining wall.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports that a $1.3 million repair project began in September to fix sunken grades, erosion and landslide damage nearby.

The state reports 101 was also closed 10 miles north of Gold Beach after road damage Sunday.
