Two top officials in the San Francisco Fire Department are among those subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury investigating an incident in which a firefighter suspected of being drunk drove a ladder truck into a motorcyclist and left the scene last June.
The grand jury is looking into whether any firefighters helped their colleague try to evade responsibility.
The San Francisco Chronicle says Assistant Chiefs Art Kenney and Dave Franklin are among subpoenaed firefighters.
Michael Quinn was driving with siren blaring, responding to what turned out to be a false alarm, when he struck the motorcyclist. Quinn reportedly was spotted at a bar guzzling water immediately after the crash.
His blood-alcohol level was measured at .13 percent.
The motorcyclist suffered broken bones and a punctured lung.
