California Highway Patrol Husband and Wife Employees Accused of Fraud

A California Highway Patrol officer and his wife, a CHP dispatcher, have been arrested on suspicion of worker’s compensation insurance fraud.

The Sacramento Bee reports Officer Daniel Cory Clapp, who’s stationed in Lassen County, is accused of filing a false worker’s compensation claim that cost the state more than $50,000.

Sacramento County prosecutors said Clapp claimed the injuries he sustained during a scuffle while making an arrest prevented him from performing his job. However, investigators caught him camping, boating, swimming and cutting firewood.

Jolea Clapp is accused of corroborating her husband’s claim of disabling pain to doctors even though she accompanied her husband on the outings.

The couple faces five felony counts, which carry a maximum penalty of five years in state prison.

An arraignment date hasn’t been set.
