El Cajon, Calif., police will undergo fire safety lessons after they sparked a brushfire during SWAT training.
U-T San Diego says the training occurred Saturday at a time when San Diego County had red-flag conditions of high temperatures and low humidity.
Authorities say a spark from a smoke canister ignited brush along a shooting range. The resulting four-acre blaze briefly threatened homes before it was doused.
Police Lt. Mark Coit says the SWAT team is re-evaluating its safety procedures for using smoke canisters and will receive training by firefighters.
