San Leandro police say a man who resisted arrest outside a fast-food restaurant died after officers shot him with a Taser stun gun.
Sgt. Doug Calcagno says around 11:30 p.m. Sunday two officers responded to a call about a man who refused to leave a Nation’s Giant Hamburgers in downtown San Leandro. The man was reportedly acting strangely and scaring customers.
Calcagno says when the man resisted arrest the officers fired the stun gun to subdue him. After they handcuffed him, his health deteriorated.
Police say paramedics provided medical assistance and took him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Oakland Tribune reports that police haven’t disclosed the name of the man, who was in his early 30s. The cause of death has not been determined.
