A former Daly City councilwoman has been sentenced to six months in jail and supervised probation for insurance fraud.
A San Mateo County Superior Court judge on Tuesday sentenced 56-year-old Margarita Gomez and ordered her to pay $64,000 in restitution for making false workers’ compensation claims.
Gomez pleaded no contest to two felony counts of insurance fraud in a plea deal under which prosecutors dropped more than a dozen other charges.
District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Gomez claimed she hurt her knee while working at SetonMedicalCenter, but was charged after investigators videotaped her lifting weights, walking in high heels and shopping.
Gomez served on the City Council for nine years.
