California safety officials are investigating the death of a construction worker who suffered fatal injuries when he fell while working on the outside of a building in San Mateo.
Authorities say 23-year-old Cristobal Reyes-Segura of Sacramento fell about 15 feet from a beam around 10 a.m.at the Woodlake Shopping Center, which is being remodeled.
Citrus Heights-based SD Deacon Corp. is overseeing the remodeling work. Brett Mykrantz, a manager with the company, says Reyes-Segura was trained to install metal studs in the frames of buildings. Grief counselors have been called in to meet with other workers.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health says its investigation should be complete within two to three months.
