Insurance and financial service giant USAA has broken ground on a 420,000 square-foot Tampa, Fla., headquarters that officials say will bring 1,200 new jobs to the area.
The new building is scheduled for completion in 2015. Construction began Tuesday.
The jobs will mostly be in client services, with the help of state and county funds through the Qualified Targeted Industries Program.
The Tampa Tribune reports that Hillsborough County has pledged $729,000 and the state kicks in the remaining 80 percent, or $2.9 million in job-growth incentives.
So far, the company has hired 130 new employees, with the others to be added by 2019. USAA provides financial services, insurance services and banking to more than 10 million customers nationwide – most either in the military or veterans.
