The town of Metcalfe, Miss., has signed an agreement that allows Washington County to pick up its trash.
The Delta Democrat Times reports that the county agreed to a fee of $7 a month per resident for trash collection services, which is almost half the price Metcalfe residents currently pay for pickup.
Griffin Waste Services had serviced the town since 1998. Mayor Corey Holmes said Curtis Griffin Jr. of Griffin Waste Services, has not produced proper state liability insurance to work and operate in a municipality.
Holmes said under state law those providing services must have liability insurance on themselves, their workers and vehicles.
Holmes said he appreciates the county for assisting his struggling town, while they look in the future to potentially buy their own garbage truck
