February 4, 2009

A McDowell County, West Virginia man accused of faking numerous accidents has pleaded guilty to fraud charges.

Insurance Commissioner Jane L. Cline saidthat 42-year-old Aaron D. Brown of Welch entered his pleas last week in McDowell County Circuit Court.

Brown pleaded guilty to four counts of fraudulent claims to an insurance company and one count of obtaining money by false pretenses, according to Cline. Both charges are felonies.

Brown also agreed to pay more than $21,000 in restitution to several insurance companies and health care providers.

Cline says Brown was accused of staging “slip and fall” accidents and “foot runovers” so that he could collect money from insurers.

Brown faces up to 10 years in prison on each count. Sentencing is scheduled for April 30.
