As Tropical Storm Fay takes aim at the Florida Keys and the the Gulf-side Florida mainland, Gov. Charlie Crist declared a statewide state of emergency.
The executive order, penned on Aug. 16, activates the Florida National Guard and places all other pertinent state agencies on alert prior to Fay being upgraded beyond tropical storm status and making the predicted landfall.
Crist said he issued the statewide emergency declaration based on National Hurricane Center projections.
