I disagree with Mark, although it is very obvious he is an Allstate employee or agent. By leaving us with Royal Pain, which is charging half again more than Citizens , they hurt us more than helped us. Since Pain would take the policy we could not go to Citizens and no one else will write a new policy. Royal Pain was our only option and they were substantially more expensive for worse coverage. Whether or not they should HAVE to write you is a moral issue with long term customers. No, they do not have to, and they proved they would not. That is their right but they severely hurt their image with the thousands of dropped policy holders. Even if I relocate I will never have Allstate again for home, auto, boat etc. and will recommend that friends do not use them either. Good Hands was always meant that they were good neighbors and helped when they were needed, they have proven that this is absolutely not the case. By cherry picking contracts in FL they have proven to be money grubbing capitalists.
Then they should get out of the friggen business. Risk is part of insurance. If they do not want ANY risk then they are in the wrong line of business. They have proven they will cancel any risky home policy, why should we not think that our auto policies will be next. There is huge money in auto, which is why there are so many options and I will be moving to one of those options. That is my Good Hands, I am saving Allstate from the risk.
Up here in the Panhandle the local Allstate agent offered a new company that had \”volunteered\” to take on their customers. It is called Universal Insurance…. and at 125% more than our Allstate home insurance had cost for the previous many years.
As I write this I am looking at alternatives for my auto insurance….
Unfortunately we and our neighbors are all stuck with Universal…
It remains to be seen if the recent special session legislation is going to do any good for any of us.
Mark,
Allstate makes HUGE profits on auto insurance. Being from South Florida, with safe drivers, 2 of 4 cars with minimal coverage and no accidents for 30 years on my Allstate policy…they make plenty of money with a premium of $5500 a year for my auto. And, lets face it, no one is remembering the fact that all those companies that provided homeowners from 1965 to 1992 in Florida made great profits with minimal payouts–no hurricanes. Insurance is all about risk-thats the business. To all of those that got Universal…lucky you because they would not insure our house because it is over 25 years old (actually 30 years old).
I also got non renewed, and spent 2 months searching for insurance. In December I called allstate, and was told royal palm would take me. I was paying 1000, and the r p quote was 1093.
My agent a few weeks later gave me quotes from citizen from 3500 up to 5000.
I sent my neighbor 2 weeks later to this allstate agent since he got a non renew.
I pay about $4,000 a year in premiums to Allstate for flood ins in fl. I figure my only worry is that the roof blows off. The house is a cinder block house and has not had any damage since it was built in 1980. My deductible is $15000.00. A new roof would prob cost 40k, so if i get by for another 5 years, I am ahead of the game. One caveat. If you drop them you will not have any liability Ins. I am asking my gardener, pest control person etc. to sign a waiver of liability. I think they are coming back to get my business, but i have no interest in dealing with them. I am not a lawyer, but I think a class action lawsuit is in order. Any other ideas?

Just one question Mark. Do you work for Allstate?

So now you\’re saying that Allstate IS a charity because they are giving me non-profitable car insurance? Make up your mind, Mark.
+1 I concur completely. After 27 years with no claims, bye-bye Allstate.

Hi,
I have found several carriers that would cover my condo\’s property insurance…I am looking into a separate policy for windstorm.
Does anyone know how to find an agent to get quotes on Citizens? or is there a listing of agencies that provide windstorm to South Florida? Thank you.
