Deadline to Apply for Dennis Damages 3 Weeks Away

August 18, 2005

With just 21 days to go until the deadline, applicants can still apply for disaster assistance with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. FEMA and State Emergency Response Team (SERT) officials encourage homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained damage and have not registered to do so by the Sept. 8, 2005, deadline.

Applicants can register by phone at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing- and speech-impaired. The registration line is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., EDT and closed on weekends. Applicants also may register online at www.fema.gov.

Those who need help registering also can visit one of the FEMA/SERT Disaster Recovery Centers now located in the Panhandle (see below). These centers have assisted more than 15,600 individuals and business owners affected by Hurricane Dennis.

To date, 37,593 individual and business owners have applied for federal and state assistance. Approved disaster aid for Hurricane Dennis has surpassed $22 million.
