N.C. Commissioner Urges Citizens on Potential Fraud

October 31, 2003

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long has urged any citizen who purchased insurance products from the following to contact their insurance companies immediately: Anthony Allen, Gregory Maynard, A.W. Allen Insurance Group or Client Relations.

Those individuals and entities have reportedly been implicated in an insurance fraud case that began with allegations against Allen, a former Fayetteville insurance agent. Department of Insurance investigators, who arrested Allen on Oct. 14, believe there may be more victims. Consumers who may have done business with these individuals or entities should reportedly call their insurance companies’ home office to determine the status of their policies.

Allen and Maynard reportedly did business in the Fayetteville area primarily but may have sold policies elsewhere in the state.

A.W. Allen Insurance Group was located at 490 North McPherson Church Road in Fayetteville; Client Relations was located at 225 Green Street, Suite 1008 of the Systel Building, also in Fayetteville. Allen and Maynard were appointed to represent the following companies: American Fidelity Assurance, John Alden Life Insurance Company, GE Life and Annuity Assurance, Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Company, State Life Insurance Company, Jefferson Pilot Financial and General Electric Capital.

A telephone tip from a possible victim initiated the DOI investigation, which culminated in allegations that Allen failed to remit $60,000 in premium payments for a life and annuity policy under Life of Virginia, now GE Life and Annuity Assurance Company.

Allen, who carried a life and health license since 1991, voluntarily surrendered his license last July.
