Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine, the Federal Alliance for Safe Home-Flash Inc., and the Home Depot are partnering with local and state agencies and businesses to sponsor the annual Hurricane Preparedness Expo on Saturday, Aug. 9, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Expo, free to the public, will be located under the tents in the parking lot of the Home Depot in Savannah (11180 Abercorn St.). The event will focus on basic preparations that can help homeowners avoid major damage from storms.
Demonstrations and seminar will be held on topics such as installing hurricane shutters, making windows and doors impact-resistant and preparing for an evacuation.
Several insurance companies will discuss disaster preparedness and how to expedite claims processing. Numerous local, state and federal agencies will provide a variety of safety and disaster prevention information. The Expo will provide an opportunity for hands-on, face-to-face training and discussion.
