University of North Texas Scholarship Program to Honor McLendon

September 18, 2014

A scholarship program for students majoring in risk management, insurance, or financial services at the University of North Texas has been established in honor of Maureen C. McLendon.

McLendon, a Dallas-area insurance professional who passionately supported insurance education, passed away on September 10. She earned an M.B.A. with a concentration in risk management and insurance from the University of North Texas in 1988. She was also very active on both a local and a national level in the CPCU Society, the property/casualty insurance industry’s premier professional association.

The scholarship program is being funded by McLendon’s employer of 29 years, International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), and some of her many colleagues and industry friends.

The Maureen C. McLendon, CPCU, Memorial Scholarship will be administered by the Texas Risk & Insurance Professionals Society (TRIPS). TRIPS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with the mission of “facilitating the entry of new talent into the insurance and risk management professions by supporting insurance education in Texas.” TRIPS already administers three other scholarship programs benefiting risk and insurance majors at the University of North Texas.

Donations for the scholarship fund may be made by check payable to the Texas Risk & Insurance Professionals Society, 12222 Merit Drive, Suite 1600, Dallas, TX 75251. Those wishing to donate with a credit card can do so through the JustGive.org website. Make your JustGive.org contribution to the Texas Risk & Insurance Professionals Society and indicate the “Maureen C. McLendon Scholarship Fund” in the box for describing how the donation should be used.

The University of North Texas is located in Denton.
