Texas Insurance Community Aims High in United Way Campaign

September 23, 2013

Texas insurance companies and agency partners are challenging themselves and other insurance industry professionals to raise the bar for philanthropy and volunteerism on behalf of the United Way for Greater Austin.

So far they are on track, with contributions coming at a 31 percent higher level compared with the same time period in 2012, according to Debby McGee, vice president of resource development for United Way for Greater Austin.

The Insurance Industry Challenge kicked off in early August at Threadgill’s restaurant in Austin, with companies such as State Auto, Columbia Insurance Group and Texas Mutual leading the charge to recruit more companies, agencies and individuals to invest their time and money in the effort.

Centatico, Farmers Insurance Group, Nationwide, New York Life, State Farm, Superior HealthPlan, Texas Medical Liability Trust (TMLT), Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA), Cunningham Lindsey and United Health Group also are involved in campaign.

The Insurance Industry Challenge has a goal of raising more than $300,000 in contributions during the campaign year, which runs from August 2013 through March 2014. That amount represents a significant increase over the more than $240,000 raised in 2012. Over 36 months the group hopes to raise $1 million.
