Terrebonne Parish, La., officials have begun the annual work of assembling the parish’s “Cat 5” team.
The task force is charged with identifying places in the parish that flood excessively in heavy rain. The team was created following Hurricane Gustav in 2008. Terrebonne Parish Council members appointed some of the members of this year’s team on Monday.
The task force gathers information on the flood-prone areas and develops plans for dealing with resulting problems, including traffic and evacuation problems. The Courier reports that the task force also evaluates the flood-prone areas and looks for ways to alleviate the problem.
