Oklahoma Boat Factory Damaged by Fire

Authorities say about $30,000 in damage was done when a fire broke out at a Miami, Okla., boat manufacturing plant.

Crews were called about 4:12 a.m. Oct. 31 to the Tracker Marine Factory. No injuries were reported.

Fire Capt. Robert Wright says the blaze started in the grinding room, where employees grind off the excess fiberglass off a boat when it comes out of the mold.

Firefighters found abandoned fiberglass materials that had been left in the room. Wright said the materials can heat up on their own and that caused the materials to ignite.

Fire Chief Ronnie Cline says the fire spread up a wall and above the sprinkler system, which he says was quickly activated.

The plant, which makes the Tahoe family runabout and deck boat, employs 300 people.
