AIG Sets up Toll-Free Number for Katrina Claimants

September 2, 2005

American International Group Inc. (AIG) urges policyholders affected by Hurricane Katrina and unable to get to their policies to use a toll-free telephone number established to answer all claims inquiries.

The number is 877-AIG-0304 (877-244-0304). Policyholders who have access to their policies should call the number provided on those policies or contact their insurance intermediaries.

AIG claim adjusters are reportedly working hard to reach insureds in the affected areas. Flooding and road closures have rendered many locations inaccessible. AIG claim adjusters are authorized to advance covered living expenses.

Martin Sullivan, president and chief executive officer of AIG, noted, “Hurricane Katrina has cut a devastating path of destruction in the Southeastern United States. Many lives have been lost. Thousands of people need food and shelter and help to start rebuilding their lives. Our hearts go out to all the victims of this storm and its aftermath.”

In addition to reaching out to its policyholders, AIG is also providing assistance in the form of an initial $1 million donation through the AIG Disaster Relief Fund and matching employee donations dollar for dollar. The fund will be used to provide badly needed assistance to the thousands of people impacted by this crisis.
