Ohio has created an online registry to try to cut down on scrap metal thefts.
The online registry of scrap metal and bulk merchandise dealers is part of Ohio’s Homeland Security Website.
It’s designed to crack down on scrap theft and protect infrastructure, like railroads whose spikes and rails are a target of thieves.
As part of the effort, the Ohio Department of Public Safety offers training for law enforcement officers and scrap metal industry representatives.
The training includes tips on how to determine if someone is trying to sell stolen scrap metal.
