Michigan Alarm Company Offers Donations for Police Response

An alarm company plans to make a $200 donation to the Detroit Public Safety Foundation every time police in the city catch burglary suspects while responding to one of its alarms.

Security Central Protection on Wednesday is making its first donation of $600 after police caught suspects three times in a week recently.

The Detroit Police Department announced last year that it won’t respond to most burglar alarms at homes and businesses unless a crime has been verified by an alarm company. The change has been described as an effort to free up more officers to respond to other emergencies instead of numerous false alarms.

Security Central Protection in Oak Park uses video surveillance that allows its staff to visually verify an alarm after it’s been activated.
