Family members of a Chicago, Ill., firefighter killed last year battling a blaze at an abandoned building are suing the owners of the structure.
The Chicago Tribune reports Jennifer Stringer and Edward Stringer Jr. filed a wrongful death lawsuit Wednesday against the owners of Sing Way Cleaners. Their father, Edward Stringer, and firefighter Corey Ankum were killed when the roof collapsed. Nineteen other firefighters were injured.
A report found the owners didn’t repair the building as ordered by city inspectors, choosing instead to try to board it up. Jennifer Stringer says the firefighters would not have died had the owners – Chuck and Richard Dai – properly secured the building or torn it down.
Richad Dai’s phone number has been disconnected and a call to Chuck Dai’s number went unanswered.
