A 51-year-old man is dead after an accident at the Keystone Steel & Wire Co. plant in central Illinois.
Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says maintenance worker David Hezlet of Cuba, Ill., was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
Ingersoll says Hezlet was driving a golf cart through the plant when it veered off path and collided with a horizontal I-beam. The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that the crash pinned Hezlet in the cart.
Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the cart to veer. An autopsy is planned.
Hezlet is the second Keystone employee to die at work in July.
Authorities say 40-year-old John DeCanter of Manito died July 20 after suffering a heart attack and collapsing in the plant’s shower facility.
