A late April jury trial is scheduled in a federal lawsuit filed against a Nebraska insurance company by the widow of a record-breaking high school basketball coach.
Micki Tibbetts filed a complaint against United of Omaha Life Insurance Co. on grounds it wrongfully denied an $83,000 life insurance claim for her husband Fred Tibbetts, who died of colon cancer in 2008.
The company says it doesn’t have to pay because Tibbetts was disabled when the policy took effect.
Tibbetts’ 551 career wins included a 111-game win streak by the Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School girls team.
