ONLY 18 ARRESTS? RATHER THAN LOBOTOMIZE THE MAN, PUT HIM IN JAIL FOR 18 YEARS. HE OBVIOUSLY HAS NO REGARD FOR OTHERS, BUT ONLY FOR HIS DRUNKENESS.

While we all appreciate your research and the costs associated with incarceration, education simply does not work in these cases. If it did, there would not be such a high recidivism rate. If chronic DWI offenses are considered to be crimes, the offenders must be jailed, again for the greater good. Why is it ok that innocents are killed or maimed at the hands of repeat offenders?

Ok, how about we all relax over a cocktail. I will host the first round. Xerxes volunteered to be the designated driver.

Agree with Mr. X. It is a joke until you have a child or close relative killed by a drunk, they you are suddenly upset and do not understand why nothing was done before your loss.

The fines need to grow exponentially (spelling) after the 1st DUI.

i.e. the first offense is $2,500.00 with 90 days suspension and the education classes etc.

    2nd DUI – $10,000 plus 2 years suspension
    3rd DUI – $25,000 plus revocation permanently.

If he has to pay the fines, he will not be able to afford the car. If he can, the States are all broke anyway, so the cash would help lower MY taxes.

That is IF he does not hit me and kill me by the State NOT jailing his *** prior to the 18 DUI. I would BEG him to hit me as that is a lottery ticket against the State for him NOT being incarcerated.

What LIBERAL state is it? Minnesota, I totally understand. Let’s kiss his butt and educate him? He is 55 years OLD? Too late for education and he will show up to the classes DRUNK!!!

Electric CHAIR is the final solution before he kills someone else.

first of all, it is a priviledge to drive…

second, it only takes one accident to kill someone because of foolishness…

third, why have we not just keep him from behind the wheel.

Outside of jail, by what method do you propose to keep him from getting behind the wheel? Given the fact that he has 18 priors, it is glaringly obvious that he has a total disregard for the law.

The state I live in has the highest number of DWI related deaths of all of the lower 48. Man recently arrested for his 12th DWI, after speeding away, then being caught, threatened to kill the policeman who caught him. He should have tried, just once, and for the last time. He has served very short sentences, had a valid driving license and insurance on his vehicle at the time of the incident. The earlier suggestion of progressive fines is a good one, but the folks around hear would not want to hurt the driver’s feelings, and the judges are too busy seeking relection than in putting away these bums.

Swamp Yankee highlights exactly what is wrong with this country…corruption in politics. It is pervasive. It is beyond my comprehension (and defies all logic) why an individual who has committed the same offense 17 times can again get behind the wheel and re-offend. There is no such thing as doing the right thing anymore. Where is the individual in power who will forsake re-election and solve this problem? If he/she is out there and manages to change the system (for the greater good), this person will without a doubt spend some time living in the White House.
