Even most child molesters and murders don’t get locked away somewhere forever. I don’t think spending tax dollars to lock up alcoholics (I’m betting a good majority drive over the limit regularly) is going to solve the problem. Fines and jail time will probably not reform many either. As infuriating as the situation is, treatment/rehab is the only thing that would work in a case like this. And even that approach isn’t guaranteed.
A similar situation happened not to long ago in Anchorage, but people died. This time the drunk driver is facing more than DWI. Why does it seem the DWI driver is the one who suvives?
Soused drivers generally survive w/minimal injuries b/c they are loose and relaxed behind the wheel. Their victims are tensed and frightened b/c they can see what’s coming at them before the point of impact.
OK, I’ll be the one to bring the bucket of cold water. It costs over $20,000 per year to incarcerate an inmate (wikipedia). In the state where I live, there are roughly 100,000 people with 3 or more DUI convictions. That would be $2B in annual “lock ’em up somewhere” costs in my state, where I am a taxpayer. No thanks, lets spend the money on education or better yet, just let me keep it.

Agree Xerxes. He should have been locked away in prison for 25 yrs or so after the 3rd one. It’s a miracle someone hasn’t been killed.

Fact: most people don’t know how to drive drunk because they don’t practice enough.
See..Max gets it !
Lobotomization.
What do you expect?

driving is certainly not a privilege, especially with the poor condition of the roads in this country.
However, I do agree that he should have been jailed years ago, permanently.
