Illegal? well in the US but not in other parts of the world. I know, I know we’re talking about the US. Immoral? Not at all. Sorry but I’d rather let my 18 y/o have a few beers instead of sending him to Iraq. Now that’s immoral.

I agree with Anon but s/he might have been sarcastic with the post. The major players with respect to responsibility and/or liability is the dead kid and his parents. Of course the other parents will get screwed by an overly emotional jury.

Can I put in my 2 cents worth? I am a mother of 2 girls, 19 and 24. Being from an Italian family, I was brought up around wine – so was my sister. (PS: No, my parents and sister are NOT alcoholics; neither am I). My husband and I have brought up our girls the same way. It’s there if they want it – if not, they leave it alone. I am proud to say that alcohol(and drugs)has not been an issue for either one of them. Peer pressure? Nope! It’s all about how they are raised and the attitude towards it. Also, it is about CHOICES. They know they have to be responsible should they make the WRONG choice. If you are old enough to drink, you are old enough to make your own choices. I don’t care how inebriated you get, you can’t tell me that you aren’t aware of your actions. If you know how to lift a drink to your mouth, you know how to have someone hide the keys. While this was a tragic case, the two teens killed in the accident had choices. Unfortunately for them, it was the wrong ones….So sad…

Brilliant posts, SFO Insurance Lady and Ohionan.

Lastbat- i concur with your last post more than your first one. One thing, do you really think your daughter is not drinking, having sex and possibily doing drugs? My bet is that she is doing one or all of these things behind your back because and thus having to lie to you because you will not treat her as an adult and have an open and honest line of communication with her. Kinda scary.

Suzie B. A. – can we sterilize you and the parents of the dead teenager as well?

My problem isn’t with those parents for thinking they are too cool for school and letting their kids drink at home in a controlled environment. honestly, i would prefer that over anything else. but i have a real problem with them letting ANYONE at ANY AGE get drunk and then allow them to just drive home. i could care less how old this kid is.

good example – my cousin got married last weekend. open bar. but you know what…they provided courtesy vans to make sure everyone got home safe.

it drives me nuts when others watch their friends, family, etc…get drunk and then just leave them on their own accord to get home.

yes, he was 18 and should be able to make sound decisions, but why would anyone want to encourage drunk driving? he probably didn’t even think he was drunk.

(but i do not think the family of the deceased should win the lawsuit lottery.)

That is a lot of BS Johnnie. There are a lot of kids out there including a few of my own who make the right decisions when it comes to alcohol and drugs. I have 2 children over 21 now and they were taught to respect the law and their bodies enough to wait until it was legal to drink and they would never under any circumstances do drugs. This is possible when they are taught to respect themselves and the law and that good things are worth waiting for.

So are you (Me) attempting to state that the dead teenager was not drunk and was not driving? Spiil it since you were there and can tell us the “correct version” of the story.

Please shield, I was just asking a valid question and it is not BS. This happened so much when I was in high school that I lost count of how many parents thought that their children were “perfect little angels” and could do no wrong yet every weekend they were beer-bonging, smoking pot, doing coke, banging the cheerleading squad, etc. At least my parents knew that I was doing that as well and made sure I was responsible. IE- no drinking & driving (never have and never will), no one got pregnant, etc.

Go ahead and keep your head stuck in the sand if you prefer but that’s your issue. I prefer an open, honest and healthy relationship with my family and not lies and deceit.

Read this carefully from the article:
“Trace and 18-year-old Daniel Bell left the party and were killed when a car Bell was driving”

So no the dead teenager was not driving. It does not say if the driver was killed as well. Read before you sound stupid.
