Hmmmm. Insurance Guy. No, I never have given any thought about wearing a helmet or body armor. Lets see, other than EVERY DAY. Stop patting yourself on the back for thinking your such a deep thinker. I have no problem wearing those effective items for protection. I also have no problem making sure my motorcycle is mechanically sound, that I am wearing quality boots, and leather adequate for the weather and conditions. I also have 30 plus years and maybe over a million miles of asphalt under my two tires. But by all means you and all your non motorcycling proteges are more qualified than I to know what it takes for me to be safe out there riding. People who think they are smart, and figure they have some insight into whats best for others based on………well, nothing, make me sick. Its all about money to you people. Money and your simple, safe, secure little lives. Until you need us. US. Most bikers in ABATE are Vets. Those who are not support Vets. We are patriots and freedom fighters and you are the kind of person that praises us and waves a flag when one of us is killed, but calls us idiots and organ donors when you percieve us potenially threatening your pocketbook. Tsk Tsk. Shameful. Folks like you will ruin this country, despite folks like us. Let me lay some perception on you. You have very little idea what this country represents, you have no heart or soul beyond the little safe boundaries you hide in. You are cowards. Powerful cowards I have to grant you. But thats how and why the powerful become powerful. You seek power to control what you fear. Those of us who are not cowards, don\’t need power or control. We are happy until you step on our toes. You do what you want, we do what we want. Well, if you force our hand, I guess your prepared for the consequences. This whole shebang is not over yet. And before you make some response about how my employment is part of the establishment, let me tell you that is true. However I do not do what I do FOR the establishment. I do what I do for my fellow soldiers, fellow officers, and for YOU. My fellow countrymen. But, hell my LIFE is not worth the possible increase of your insurance bill to you though. Maybe you ought to just protect yourself.

What is all this talk about personal freedom ? EVERYONE seems to have forgotten that the roads and highways belong to and are under the control of the State.
Using them is a privilege, not a right.
Helmet laws are no different than driver license laws, traffic laws, trucking laws, etc. etc. No one is forcing you to drive on the highway. The State has the power and the right to make the rules. There is no \”right to personal freedom\” on the highways. That\’s just a propaganda phrase used to stir up emotions with no legal basis.

I think CJ misses the point here. No one is saying the government doesn\’t have the legal authority to require helmets. America is a nation based on the ideal that the government should not restrict the individual absent a good reason. There are lots of good reasons to restrict what we do on the highway but a good argument can be made that things like seat belts and helmets for adults should be voluntary.

I agree that driving a car, let alone riding a Recreational Vehicle is a PRIVILEGE not a Right. I do ride and I always wear a helmet because I owe it to my family.

While everyone is crowing about Rights, they forget about Responsibility. People want the right to be stupid, but then they expect the \”Evil Insurance Company\” to come to their rescue on Medical Bills/ Lost Wages or better yet, that Evil Government, the one that is infringing on them, to support their Spouse and Kids when they kill themselves.

If you have the money that Ben Roethlisburger has and you can pay your OWN bills and make sure your OWN family is taken care of, instead of MY Health Insurance Premiums and MY Social Security dollars paying for it, than carry on.

This is the same mentality that causes Fat people to sue McDonald\’s or Smokers to sue tobacco companies. What are we teaching our kids?

Hear, hear. Very well spoken, Underwriter. I suppose that with the high rates of insurance/taxes/etc. it is easy for us to feel the need to ***** about something. If the state gov\’ts could just make it equal across the board, some wouldn\’t feel the unfairness, whether it is real or imagined.

I never realized that some of these bikers were just as looney as those Gun Nuts from the NRA.

    Oh well, this is America.

Thorsblood thanks for serving our country, but I have a couple of questions for you. When you were called up, I\’m assuming to serve in Iraq, did you go out on patrol without wearing your helmet, because it interfered with your freedom of choice? As a police officer, do you wear body armour, while on patrol or do you take the chance that a criminal will have bad aim? As both a National Guardsman and a State Police Officer, do you take commands from those who have a higher rank than you?

My point being, you are not free to do whatever you want in either one of your professions, because your commanding officers are resposible for your well being. You also have to follow a code of conduct that pretty much restricts your Freedom. Think about it for a while.

Al (Hawgman) Salmi, you need to do a little homework before you blame the insurance industry for your MCCA fees. The insurance industry doesn\’t have anything to do with setting these fees, they are set by the State of Michigan. So if you want to point the finger at someone point it in another direction.

All the insurance companies do is collect the fee and turn it right over to the State. We don\’t get or see a dime of it, but your legislature does.
