The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Detroit Field Division, announced recently that the fire at the Woodward and Palmer Market in Detroit was intentionally set.
ATF agents responded to the scene of the blaze at the market, located at 5730 Woodward Avenue. They carried out an on-scene investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire, took fire debris samples and conducted interviews. The samples, taken as evidence, were to be submitted to the Michigan State Police (MSP) Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
An ATF certified fire investigator determined that the fire, which occurred at approximately 6 a.m., was caused by arson. Damage to the business is estimated at $350,000.
ATF is requesting the help of citizens who may have information about the fire to call the toll-free hotline number 1-888-ATF-FIRE. Callers can remain anonymous.
