Grange Mutual, Injury Sciences Partner on EDR Insight for Black Box Data Services

July 26, 2004

Injury Sciences LLC announced that Ohio-based Grange Insurance is the latest licensee of EDR InSight, the first and only set of solutions designed for claims professionals to facilitate the use of automotive Event Data Recorder (EDR) or “black box” data in the claims evaluation process.

Grange will use EDR InSight to identify vehicles with harvestable black box data. Grange claim representatives will further utilize EDR InSight to schedule harvesting services from a network of mobile service providers and for analysis and interpretation of the EDR data. EDRs provide objective insight into a collision event by recording such information as vehicle and engine speed prior to impact, throttle position, braking activity and impact severity.

“We are committed to fair claim service and believe that EDR InSight provides us the opportunity to improve liability determination on select claims by analyzing accurate and objective vehicle data. Injury Sciences makes it possible to take advantage of this new technology with its harvesting and interpretive services,” according to Lyle Rhodebeck, vice president claims, Grange Insurance.

Grange offers auto, home, life, business and farm insurance protection, plus financial services through The Grange Bank, in Ohio, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee. Grange Insurance is also affiliated with Integrity Mutual of Appleton, Wisconsin, which offers its own insurance products and access to The Grange Bank through independent agents in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
