A Zimbabwean official says at least three people died after a gasoline truck overturned in the capital and burst into flames after people rushed to the vehicle to take the leaking gas.
Fire department chief Savius Mugava told state radio on Sunday that the incident in southern Harare late Saturday left corpses burned beyond recognition. He says nine people were hospitalized and that more victims’ remains may still be found in the wreckage.
State radio says a crowd that gathered at the scene in an impoverished suburb where gasoline shortages are common ignored pleas by the truck driver not to siphon spilling gas into containers.
