Baltimore to Approve $49,000 Settlement Over Man’s Broken Jaw

A Baltimore, Md., board is set to approve a $49,000 settlement with a man who sued Baltimore police, accusing officers of breaking his jaw after arresting him.

Charles Faulkner of Middle River had sought $2 million in his August 2013 lawsuit.

Faulkner says detectives put him in handcuffs on Sept. 1, 2010 in east Baltimore, and that one of them then hit him in the face with a walkie-talkie, and punched him in the face and jaw. The lawsuit says Faulkner’s jaw was broken in three places. Police say Faulkner sustained the injuries after a detective tackled him as he tried to flee.

The Daily Record reports that Baltimore’s Board of Estimates will consider a $49,000 settlement with Faulkner on Wednesday at the recommendation of the city law department.
