Hudson River Bridge Construction Leads to Reduced Speed Limit

The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and state police are stepping up enforcement in the construction zone as the Hudson River span undergoes a $93 million re-decking project.

Officials with the New York State Bridge Authority say the reduced speed limit is in effect on both sides of the span, which links Orange and Dutchess counties 60 miles north of New York City.

Crews are in the second year of a three-year project to rebuild the bridge’s decks and repaint the structure.

With more than 100 workers on the job site, state police officials say troopers from both sides of the river are on the lookout for speeding motorists as well as aggressive and distracted drivers.

The bridge authority operates five bridges in the Hudson Valley.
