Stamford police are seeking criminal charges against a 92-year-old man whose car crashed into a café and injured 10 people including himself.
Police Sgt. Andrew Gallagher says investigators will ask prosecutors to pursue charges against Samuel Leighton of Stamford.
Authorities say Leighton was parking in a handicapped space in front of the busy Café Oo La La on Monday when he apparently hit the accelerator instead of the brake. The car plowed about 20 feet into the building. The victims’ injuries aren’t life-threatening, but some suffered broken bones.
Leighton told The Advocate of Stamford on Tuesday that a woman was guiding him from the parking spot, but he doesn’t remember much after that. The newspaper reported he had nothing specific to say about the victims or the police investigation.
