State fire marshal’s investigators are probing five separate arsons that caused heavy damage to buildings and vehicles in northern New Castle County.
Authorities said the fires were set 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and targeted at two vacant dwellings, two pieces of construction equipment, and a trash container.
Total damage was estimated at $400,000.
The first two fires involved a dump truck and another piece of construction equipment in the Centre Road area of Wilmington. They were followed a trash container fire on West Salisbury Drive, and house fires on Pennewell Drive and Newport Gap Pike.
One firefighter battling the Newport Gap Pike blaze was treated for heat exhaustion.
